Fireworks restrictions

(Skagit/Island Counties)- There are several fireworks use restrictions in our area.

Authorities say legal fireworks are allowed in most of the unicorporated areas of Skagit and Island Counties provided they are ignited between 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. now through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to midnight July 4th, and from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 5th. Fireworks are prohibited on public lands managed by the federal or state governments, such as in North Cascades National Park.

Locally, fireworks are banned inside the city limits of Anacortes and Burlington, La Conner allows non-aerial fireworks only from 9 a.m. to midnight Friday, Mount Vernon allows non-aerial fireworks only from noon to midnight on the 4th of July only, and Sedro-Woolley allows fireworks from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday only.

On the Swinomish Reservation, fireworks are permissible between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays, until 11 p.m. on weekends, and until midnight on July 4th, except within 300 feet of buildings. On the Upper Skagit Reservation, fireworks are allowed from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Sunday, July 6th in the ball field, except from 9 a.m. to midnight on July 4th, when the fireworks area includes a small designated area near the tribal housing complex.

The City of Oak Harbor follows state law, except all fireworks are prohibited in city parks and on school campuses. And for Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, all fireworks are prohibited on Navy property, including base housing.
