Everett man dies in crash

(MOUNT VERNON)- The Washington State Patrol says a 29-year-old Everett man was killed in a motorcycle/SUV crash near Schuh Farms on Memorial Highway west of Mount Vernon yesterday afternoon.

Trooper Keith Leary says Beau Mitchell was heading west on Memorial Highway around 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon.

Leary says Mitchell was riding a 2009 Honda Sport Bike and died at the scene.

Leary says Memorial Highway west of Mount Vernon was closed for several hours yesterday while troopers investigated the fatal crash.

Leary says no charges will be filed.

Two burned in explosion

(SEDRO-WOOLLEY)- The Sedro-Woolley Fire Department says two young men were severely burned in an explosion around 8:40 p.m. Sunday night at an auto racing shop in the Sunset Park Business Park in Sedro-Woolley.

(SKAGIT COUNTY)— Columbia Helicopters of Portland, Oregon, used one of their Chinook Helicopters yesterday to deliver a World War II- era PBY-5A Catalina Seaplane from a location near the Skagit Regional Airport in Bay View to a parking lot next to the PBY Memorial Foundation Museum on the Seaplane Base at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor.

Sweet says the Washington State Patrol closed a portion of Highway 20 and Memorial Highway yesterday as a safety precaution as the aircraft flew from Bay View to Oak Harbor.

The project was organized by the PBY Memorial Foundation and the commanding officer of NAS Whidbey Island.

Sweet says once the refurbishment of the Catalina is finished, an official dedication of the static aircraft display will take place around the middle of next month at the Seaplane Base.

Stewart wins Dirt Cup

(ALGER)- On a tough night for a former Dirt Cup champion, a past champion won his second-ever 40-lap Race of Champions last night at the 39th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway.

Shane Stewart started on the pole with former champion Jonathan Allard on the outhside of the front row.

Allard took the lead on lap one and led the first 23 laps until he spun out in turn one after tangling with lapped traffic.

Stewart wound up taking the lead and eventually the win…

Jason Solwold took fourth and the Kaeding brothers, Tim and Bud, finished fifth and sixth respectively. Allard spun out later in the race and wound up 20th out of 24 cars. Kyle Hirst won the B-Main Event while Danielle Huson took the C-Main win. Reece Goetz won the Midget feature race.
